The Warrior Baseball team will play their final four game series this weekend to wrap up the season. The Millsaps Majors (25-9) will be battling the Warriors (13-20) for control on Warrior Field. According to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball (ABCA) NCAA Division III Baseball Poll, the Majors have recently moved from being ranked 11th in the nation to being ranked 22nd.

"We're coming along pretty well. We're not where we want to be yet, but we're making progress and steady improvement," Coach R.J. Thomas said.

This year's team is very young with 11 freshmen, six sophomores and one junior who is currently out of play but will have two years of eligibility after this season. According to sophomore Daniel Ward, the team gets along well and has an overall good chemistry.

"I'm looking forward to next year. I'm excited about this group; we've got a shot to do big things. In the next two to three years we should be a powerhouse in our conference," Thomas said.

As for this season, "It's gone all right, we haven't quite played to our full potential," freshman David Hagan said.

"We have improved a lot. We are still struggling with pitching and depth, but the freshmen have really shown that they can play ball. They deserve to be playing at the college level. Our returning sophomores have shown a lot of improvement over the year," Ward said.

According to Ward, the coaching changes have been a key part to the team's success this season.

"Coach (Chris) Curry, Coach Thomas and Coach (Neil) Groat have all contributed to making us better players and better people," Ward said.

This weekend will give the Warriors a chance to show the Majors, currently ranked first in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) West Division, what they can do on the field.

"I'm excited to see what we can do against the best team in the conference. It will show us where we are and how far we have come since last year," Ward said.

Freshman David Reyes is also looking forward to the weekend.

"I'm excited because depending on what we do against Millsaps, [this weekend] will determine how much heart we have as a team, whether we lay down and give them the games or give them four losses before the [conference] tournament," he said.
