Methodist Bishop to deliver commencement address

Bishop Janice Riggle Huie, who has served as Bishop for the Arkansas Area of the United Methodist Church (UMC) since 1996, will deliver this year's commencement address to the graduating Class of 2004, on May 15.
Huie was elected to the episcopacy and appointed to the Arkansas Area of the United Methodist Church in the summer of 1996. Since that time she has served as a trustee of Hendrix College and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. She has worked with Hendrix students in a variety of capacities on and off campus. Last summer, Huie accompanied a group of 13 Hendrix volunteers on a mission trip to Peru. As part of a Volunteers in Mission project, the Hendrix group helped with the construction of a Methodist camp in Chincha, Peru.
Prior to her appointment as Bishop, Huie served as district superintendent for the San Angelo District. She has served as pastor at Manchaca United Methodist Church, associate pastor at University United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas, and as pastor at two additional Texas churches.
