The women's soccer team was unable to shake off their slump of bad luck this weekend, losing 4-0 to the University of Dallas. Despite efforts to intensify their physical game and improve their shots and passes, Dallas made good on the few mistakes the Hendrix women made.

The first goal scored in the 16th minute came from a shot 25 yards out. The ball floated over the head of sophomore goalkeeper Mindy Eggert.

Following the goal, the Hendrix defense stood up to Dallas with smart plays to the wings and continual pressure that flawed the Dallas attacks. Freshman Lindsay Evans led the defense, shuttling the ball to the wings and out of bounds and defusing the Dallas offensive outside the goalkeeper's box.

Except for some critical communication mistakes, Hendrix performed well. The second (46th minute) and fourth (81st minute) goals of the game were a result of confusion in the front of the Hendrix goal.

The second goal was scored after a deflected clearance from Hendrix kept the ball in shooting range. Dallas capitalized on the poor clearance putting the ball just beyond the keeper's grasp in the confusion.

The fourth goal brutalized Eggert. In an attempt to recover the ball from an attacking forward, Eggert fell amidst three Dallas attackers taking a blow to the stomach. After repeated poor clearance, Dallas gained control of the ball and scored on an open goal and a downed keeper.

Two excellently executed shots ricocheted off the crossbar. Miller connected brilliantly on a cross to freshman Alena Davis, whose header was deflected. The shot was then collected by freshman midfielder Kristin Andreen who collected the loose ball, turned and shot quickly, but the ball bounced off of the crossbar.

Just a minute later, sophomore midfielder Robin Lowrimore pulled an impressive shot from twenty yards out. Her chip floating to the upper-left was again deflected giving a goal kick to Dallas.

Hendrix finished the half with relentless and skillful attacks. Coach Glen Tourville hopes to increase the frequency of such skilled attacks in the coming games.

"If the belief system is right and the physical effort matches that belief on any day, any team can win," Tourville said.

Conference play continues this weekend at Oglethorpe University on Friday and at Millsaps College on Sunday.
