Werner Trieschmann's collaboration with singer/songwriter Jason Morphew debuts tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Cabe Theatre Arts Center in a staged reading. "Royal Country," the musical/comedy, tells the story of two fictional country music greats, King "The Muskrat" and Queen.

Just as King's dominance of the charts begins to slip, his slippy manager Bo arranges a marriage with Queen, whose workday life in a beauty salon leaves her longing for something more. The only harmony created by the marriage is on stage; when all the fans have gone home, their heavenly musical partnership becomes a hellish marriage.

Marked by infidelity and alcoholism (and hypochondria), their relationship seems to be ripped straight from the chorus of a country song. King and Queen call it quits, yet they end up going down in country music history. The avid fans of the King and Queen combo refuse to believe any of the rumors of the darkside of their relationship.

Morphew will perform all twelve songs from the musical tomorrow night in the special staged reading. Morphew's songs have garnered some attention from such mainstream media outlets as The New Yorker and Rolling Stone, and his accomplishments have landed him a five-album contract with Sony Music Publishing.

Trieschmann is an alumnus of Hendrix and is responsible for bringing the Playwright's Theatre series to Hendrix. The series showcases new plays by Hendrix writers. Trieschmann's own plays have been performed in New York, Los Angeles and other cities across the country. He is the first playwright to receive the Porter Prize, an Arkansas literary award recognizing outstanding achievement by an Arkansas writer.

No reservations are required, and the event is free and open to the public. For more information call 450-4545.
