"I'm evaluating and assessing what our strategy should be for the future, but right now I'm just letting the great staff over there [in Admission and Financial Aid] do what they do best. And I'm just trying to stay out of their way," Cloyd said.
Cloyd would not say whether he planned on hiring a new vice president for Enrollment or not. "I don't want to say anything about it right now. Now, what I want to do is support the staff and let them do their job with no distractions. And, I'm doing some assessment. I'm doing some comparisons and evaluations to see where we should go in the future," he said.
However, confusion exists as to what exactly the future holds for he offices of Admission and Financial Aid. "They will definitely hire another [vice president for Enrollment] in the future, I'm just not sure when that will be," Director of Admission Amy Rose Anderson said.
Executive Vice President Rock Jones is helping Anderson and the Office of Financial Aid in the interim.
"Rock's executive vice president. And, so part of what it means to be executive vice president is to provide an extra hand wherever the college needs it, and that's what he's doing is stepping in. As executive vice president he has a big role in all operations," Cloyd said.
As for the reasons Weeden left his post, both Dr. Cloyd and Anderson said he wanted to pursue other opportunities.
"Art resigned to pursue other opportunities. Since it was a personal decision, there's not much more I can say about that," Cloyd said.
"Honestly that's what he's doing. He's looking for other positions," Anderson said.
Though Weeden gave no prior notice of his resignation before he stopped working for Hendrix, neither Anderson nor Dr. Cloyd knew of anything that would have made him want to leave suddenly.
"When a person makes a decision about personnel or when they're going to leave, go somewhere, or pursue other interests, I usually don't talk about those things for privacy issues. I would not want to be speculating on him as a person. That's not fair," Cloyd said.
"Art definitely wanted what was best for Hendrix. He absolutely loves this place. I really think he struggled with his decision. I really think he wanted to try to make it through the year. It was a tough decision for him," Anderson said.

With a high level of turnover in certain Hendrix offices, notably Admission, one wonders whether the college has been and will be able to retain its identity. (Continued…)
