"Dr. Entzminger is eminently qualified for the position," said President Cloyd. "His record as a teacher and scholar is outstanding and his experience as an administrator is substantial. I look forward to working with him in the years to come as we build on the College's 125-year legacy of academic excellence."
"In discussion with the faculty, Bob Entzminger showed a deep appreciation for the collegiality we have here among administrators, faculty, staff and students," said Dr. Peg Falls-Corbitt, professor of philosophy and co-chair of the Provost Search Committee. "He recognizes it as something that we must work to hold onto against national pressures for colleges to take policy steps that threaten such an environment."
"Dr. Entzminger has been highly successful in the recruitment and development of a strong young faculty, and he has done this in a situation that, for various reasons, was far from optimal," Dr. Falls-Corbitt continued. "Most importantly, he has managed to do that while maintaining a reputation for eminent fairness and humanity. He has a reputation for good judgment and courage in standing up for what he believes in."
Dr. Entzminger teaches courses on John Milton; Sixteenth-Century Poetry and Prose; and Seventeenth-Century Poetry and Prose. Additional undergraduate courses he has taught include Senior Seminar: Contemporary Critical Theory; Milton; Shakespeare's Major Plays; Shakespeare: Tragedies and Romances; Shakespeare: Comedies; Renaissance Drama; Renaissance Poetry and Prose; Seventeenth-Century Poetry and Prose; Restoration Literature; Satire; and Freshman English. In the Humanities area, he has taught the Search for Values: Literature Track; the Medieval Synthesis and Its Dissolution; and the Renaissance North and South.
"The search committee had a difficult job narrowing our search down, as we had a very strong field of candidates," said Dr. Garret McAinsh, Harold and Lucy Cabe Distinguished Professor of History, who was the senior faculty member of the Provost Search Committee. "I think that Bob Entzminger is a fine choice, and I am confident that the campus community will rally behind him as he takes on this crucial leadership role."
